Hello People.
Due to my current work demands and other stuff going on in this beautiful life of mine, I am taking a break from writing.
In the meantime, I’d like to share this scene from the movie “Gladiator” starring Russell Crowe. It’s 5 min. 35 secs and there are so many things that touch me every single time I watch it…
The music (Hans Zimmer - same guy who wrote music for Batman), dialogues, Maximus's passion for Rome and his loyalty for his king, although that King is long dead (Marcus Aurelius) and the way he starts floating toward the "next world" where his (dead) wife and son are waiting for him...While still standing, he says “There was a dream that was Rome” (immediately the camera pans to Lucilla who knows she has lost him and she is helpless, eyes welled up, hoping against hope) …and his reassurance that Lucius is safe, leaving behind an heir to the throne while Lucilla sobs and says “Go to them…” and as he leaves his body, she gets up and addresses the crowd “Is Rome worth one good man’s life? We believed it once. Make us believe it again. He was a soldier of Rome. Honor him.”
Every single time…without fail, every single time I watch this scene, my eyes well up.
Juba (Djumon Hounsou) buries the wooden idol-toys in the earth and looks up (as if to speak to the dead Maximus) saying “Now we are free. And will I see you again…but not yet, not yet…”
# Classic! This life that we live.
Much love. Stay hungry, curious, healthy, happy, and as always…
Be well. Love yourselves. Will be back soon.
